A gastroenterologist diagnoses and treats diseases of the digestive organs: the esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder and pancreas. The most common reasons for a consultation are:
- Gastritis and ulcers: pain or burning in the stomach, nausea, belching
- Helicobacter pylori infection: confirmed by a test and successfully treated with therapy
- Reflux disease: heartburn and acid coming back up into the esophagus

After a detailed discussion of your symptoms and diet comes the examination, and where necessary an abdominal ultrasound, laboratory analyses and a Helicobacter pylori test can all be done straight away. At the end you receive a clear diagnosis, a course of treatment and a follow-up plan.
