What the examination is like: anoscopy
The proctology examination is carried out by Dr Med. Branimir Nešković, surgical oncologist. The examination begins with a discussion, followed by an examination with anoscopy: a short, careful examination of the rectum with an instrument that gives the doctor a direct view. The whole examination takes a few minutes and, for most patients, is uncomfortable rather than painful. Based on the findings you receive a diagnosis and a proposed course of treatment straight away.
Treatment: outpatient, under local anesthesia
Sclerotherapy for hemorrhoids resolves the problem without conventional surgery or a hospital stay. Pilonidal sinus surgery under local anesthesia is also performed by Spec. Dr Med. Rastko Baćević, surgeon. After the procedure you receive aftercare instructions and follow-up appointments.
Frequently asked questions
Is a proctology examination painful?
The examination is uncomfortable, but for most patients it is not painful and it takes only a few minutes. It is carried out carefully and discreetly, and anoscopy allows the doctor to see the rectum directly and reach an accurate diagnosis.
How should I prepare for a proctology examination?
No special preparation is usually needed. If preparation is required after all, you will receive clear instructions when you book.
Do hemorrhoids go away on their own?
Milder symptoms can settle with changes to diet and habits, but hemorrhoids that bleed or keep coming back need to be examined and treated. Sclerotherapy is a quick outpatient method that treats hemorrhoids successfully without conventional surgery.
Blood in the stool: is it always from hemorrhoids?
No. Hemorrhoids are the most common cause, but bleeding can also come from other, more serious conditions of the large intestine. That is why any bleeding should be examined, and the doctor will refer you for further diagnostics if needed.
