Wound dressing at home in Belgrade

  • Technician's visit 2.000 RSD to 5.000 RSD
  • As prescribed by a doctor
  • Within Belgrade

Wound dressing at home is one of the services the Miren Medic polyclinic provides at your home address. A medical technician comes to you and dresses the wound as prescribed by a doctor, so the patient does not have to travel to the clinic and sit in a waiting room, which after an operation or with limited mobility is often the hardest effort of the whole day.

The service is intended for people with a wound after surgery or an injury, for bedridden patients and for families caring for an elderly parent. Appointments are arranged by phone or by message on WhatsApp.

When wound dressing at home is the right choice

A wound that needs regular dressing means making the same trip again and again: from home to the clinic and back, often with the help of someone from the family. At home, this part of care is done where the patient spends the day anyway, with no transport and no waiting.

Most often these are the following wounds:

  • A wound after surgery, when the surgeon has prescribed dressing in the discharge letter until the stitches are removed or until the wound heals.
  • A wound after an injury, cuts, grazes and burns that a doctor has already examined.
  • A wound from lying down for a long time (a pressure sore, or bedsore) in bedridden people, where dressing is part of the care plan set by a doctor.
  • Chronic wounds on the legs, where a doctor decides the treatment and regular dressing is part of that treatment.

If the wound has not been examined yet, or its appearance is changing, the first step is an examination by a doctor. A doctor can also come to your home address, assess the wound and decide how and how often it should be dressed.

What wound dressing at your home address looks like

From the first call to the next appointment, in this order.

  1. Call and arrangement

You describe where the wound is, how it happened and what the doctor prescribed. We agree an appointment and what needs to be ready.

  2. Arrival

A medical technician comes to your address with the necessary equipment and first looks at the doctor's instructions.

  3. Dressing

The old dressing is removed, and the wound is cleaned and dressed with sterile material, following the doctor's instructions.

  4. Next appointment

How often the wound is dressed follows the doctor's recommendation. If the appearance of the wound suggests that an examination is needed, you are told straight away.

Signs that a wound needs a doctor

Between two dressings, keep an eye on the wound and the skin around it. These are general signs for contacting a doctor before the scheduled dressing. They are not a diagnosis, but a reason for a doctor to look at the wound.

  • Redness that is spreadingThe skin around the wound gets redder and the redness grows from day to day.
  • Swelling, warmth and stronger painThe wound hurts more than in the previous days, and the area around it is swollen and warm.
  • Pus or an unpleasant smellThe dressing quickly soaks through with a cloudy, yellow or greenish discharge.
  • Raised temperature or chillsEspecially if they appear a few days after surgery.
  • The wound opens or is not improvingThe edges are separating, or the wound looks the same for weeks.
  • Bleeding that does not stopIf the bleeding does not stop with pressure, call emergency services on 194.

Pressure sores (bedsores): wounds from lying down

A pressure sore develops when pressure on the same spot lasts a long time, most often in people who lie or sit without being able to change position on their own. It most often appears over bones: on the sacrum, the heels, the hips and the elbows. It starts as redness that does not fade when pressed, and without care it can turn into an open wound.

With a bedridden family member it is therefore important to change the body's position often, to keep the skin clean and dry and to check the pressure points every day. When a wound already exists, dressing it is part of the care plan set by a doctor, and a medical technician carries it out at your home address.

If you are caring for a bedridden parent on your own, tell us when you call that it is a pressure sore and how long it has been there. That way we agree whether a doctor's examination is needed first or the dressing is scheduled straight away.

Frequently asked questions

The questions families ask us most often when arranging a dressing.

How much does wound dressing at home cost?
A medical technician's visit to your home address costs from 2.000 RSD to 5.000 RSD, depending on the service and the location. You get the exact amount for your dressing when arranging the appointment, once you describe the wound.
Do I need a doctor's order for wound dressing at home?
Yes, the technician dresses the wound at your home address as prescribed by a doctor. Most often this is the discharge letter or the instructions of the doctor who operated on you or is treating you. If you do not have such instructions, a doctor can come to your home address, examine the wound and decide how it should be dressed.
How often is a wound dressed after surgery?
That depends on the type of wound, the dressing and the surgeon's instructions. Some wounds are dressed every day, some every few days, so the schedule is agreed according to the discharge letter. Do not change the dressing yourself unless the doctor has told you to.
Do you dress pressure sores at home?
Wound dressing is a service at your home address, and with a pressure sore it follows the care plan set by a doctor. When you call, tell us that it is a pressure sore and how long it has been there, so that we can agree whether a doctor's examination is needed first.
What should I do between two dressings?
Keep the dressing dry and clean, and do not remove it or touch the wound unless that is part of the doctor's instructions. Watch for redness, swelling, discharge and temperature, and contact a doctor if they appear before the next dressing.
Can the dressing also be done at the polyclinic?
Yes. Dressing a smaller area at the polyclinic costs 2.500 RSD, and a larger area 3.000 RSD. The polyclinic is at Vojvode Stepe 250 in Voždovac.
