Physiotherapy at home in Belgrade

  • Portable device at your address
  • Pain and stiffness
  • Within Belgrade

Physiotherapy at home (physical therapy in a home setting) is a Miren Medic polyclinic service for patients for whom coming to the clinic is difficult: after surgery or an injury, with severe back and joint pain, with stiffness, and for older people who have trouble moving. We bring a portable physical therapy device to your address, so the treatment to relieve pain and stiffness is done at home.

Before therapy it is important to know the cause of the pain, so on this page we also explain when an examination is needed first.

Pain and stiffness: when therapy at home makes sense

At the polyclinic, physical therapy is used for back and neck pain, knee or shoulder pain, sciatica and cervical syndrome, after injuries and operations, and for chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis and spondylosis. The same reasons apply at home, when the patient cannot come in.

Stiffness is a common reason for calling: the joints are stiff in the morning or after sitting, movement is painful, and lying down for a long time after an illness or operation makes everything worse. The aim of therapy is to relieve pain and preserve mobility as much as possible.

Morning stiffness that lasts longer, with swollen and warm joints, is a reason for an examination by a rheumatologist, because it can be a sign of an inflammatory joint disease.

What therapy at your home address looks like

  1. The cause of the pain

If a diagnosis has not been made yet, an examination comes first. An orthopaedist and a rheumatologist work at the polyclinic, and a doctor can also come to your home address.

  2. Arrangement

By phone we agree the plan: which area is treated, how many treatments and how often.

  3. Treatment at home

We bring a portable device to your address, and the treatment is done while the patient sits or lies down.

  4. Exercises between treatments

An exercise programme to do on your own continues the therapy even after the treatments are finished.

At home or at the polyclinic

If coming in is not a problem, the polyclinic has a wider choice of methods. At home, the aim is for therapy to reach those who cannot come in.

Tell us before therapy, and this does not wait for an appointment

When arranging, be sure to tell us if the patient has a pacemaker or another implanted electronic device, metal implants in the area being treated, is pregnant, or has an active infection, a raised temperature or a malignant disease, because some methods are not suitable then.

Physical therapy is not a substitute for emergency services. Call 194 if back pain comes with loss of bladder or bowel control, if an arm or leg suddenly becomes weak, if after an injury it is not possible to put weight on a leg or a joint is deformed, or if a joint is suddenly swollen, red and warm with a raised temperature.

Frequently asked questions

Can physical therapy be done at home?
Yes. Physical therapy in a home setting is a service of the Miren Medic polyclinic: we bring a portable device to your address, and the treatment is done while the patient sits or lies down.
How much does physiotherapy at home cost?
The price of therapy at home depends on the plan, the number of treatments and the location, and is agreed by phone. For comparison, at the polyclinic TECAR therapy of up to 30 minutes costs 4.000 RSD, and a package of five treatments 18.000 RSD.
Does it help with joint stiffness?
Physical therapy is used to relieve pain and preserve mobility, so stiffness is a common reason for it. How much it will help depends on the cause of the stiffness, which is why it is important that the cause is known. Long-lasting morning stiffness with swollen joints calls for an examination by a rheumatologist.
Do I need a doctor's report before therapy?
Before therapy it is important to know the cause of the pain. If you have reports, such as an X-ray, an MRI scan or a discharge letter, have them ready. If a diagnosis has not been made, an examination by an orthopaedist or a rheumatologist comes first.
How many treatments are needed?
The number of treatments depends on the cause and duration of the symptoms and is agreed after an assessment. The plan changes according to how the condition changes during therapy.
When is physical therapy not suitable?
Tell us if the patient has a pacemaker, metal implants in the area to be treated, is pregnant, or has an active infection, a raised temperature or a malignant disease. Some methods are not suitable then.
