There is a simple check you can do yourself. Stand at a mirror and light your face from above, then straight on. A shadow that vanishes under direct light comes from contour, so a hollow or a bag. Darkness that stays the same under every light is colour, so pigment or blood vessels showing through thin skin.
Why filler in a bag makes things worse
A bag forms when a fat pad pushes forward past the septum that used to hold it in the orbit. That is surplus volume already sitting proud. Filler is also volume. Added below or around the bag, the total bulge gets bigger and the border between the bag and the cheek is often outlined even more sharply. The result is a face that looks swollen rather than rested.
On top of that, the skin under the eye is the thinnest on the body, so product placed too superficially can show as a paler or bluish line, and this area holds water longer than the rest of the face, so swelling after treatment can linger. What improves before any treatment at all

How long do under-eye fillers last?

Can under-eye bags be removed without surgery?
